My Pretty Pony
was the American predecessor to the My Little Pony series appearing first in
1981. It is about 10 inches tall and ma
de
of hard plastic. My Pretty Pony was first
produced by Romper Room under the license of Hasbro, later Hasbro gained the
patent. There are two basic types, the brown versions, and
the Peachy versions. The brown version was actually the first to be made
and was issued in 1981.
They each have a lever underneath their chins that made their eyes blink, ears
wiggle, and tail swish. However, over time, the mechanism may wear out and it
may not work any longer. They were sold in 1981 and at least up until 1983,
and paved the way for the Collector
Ponies, which basically share the same pose as the My Pretty Pony line.
The My Pretty Pony shares the same style as the prototype
sketches for MLP.
The My Pretty Pony logo (on the Peachy style
versions) is identical to the MLP logo, except for the lettering change of Little
to Pretty. Two of the three pretty ponies were also exact replicas in
style and pose and color to a My Little Pony named Peachy,
released in 1982 with the Pretty Parlor.

"Brown" My Pretty Pony
"Brown" My
Pretty Pony (earth pony) has a
brown body with tan hair and white blaze on her nose and white accents on the
leg areas. She has a sort of deep greenish-brown eyes. She has no symbol.
My Pretty Pony has 1981 Hasbro Industries, Pawtucket R. I. pat pending stamped
on her.
Some people say she resembles Butterscotch
or even is an early version of Butterscotch. I would say probably not, but that's
just my opinion.
She came with several accessories: Blue hand-held brush, blue long original
comb (like the original comb that came with Collector Ponies, but longer), cowboy
hat (red and white gingham band; Romper Room logo printed on band), red saddle
blanket, and red, blue, and purple ribbons. Her box is pictured below (courtesy
of Inglemist) and lack the standard rainbow My Little Pony logo that came with
the other two versions.

Interestingly, Butterscotch included in the 1983 release of My Pretty Pony.

Peachy, My Pretty Pony
"Pink" Version
1 My Pretty Pony (earth pony) is a peachy color with a white blaze on her
nose. She has coral pink (orangish tint) hair and has seven pink hearts on each
side of her rear. Her eyes are blue. She has 1981
Hasbro Industries, Pawtucket R. I. pat pending stamped onto her body. Both
photo examples show this version.
"Pink" Version 2 My Pretty Pony (earth pony) is a peachy color
with a white blaze on her nose and white foreleg accents. She has medium
pink hair and has seven pink hearts on each side of her rear. Her eyes are blue.
She has 1981 Hasbro Industries, Pawtucket R. I. pat pending stamped onto her
body. Both photo examples show this version.
She comes with several accessories: a white cowboy hat with purple ribbon
tie (two ribbons ajoin to hold hat on pony's head), lavender hand-held brush,
lavender comb (like the original comb that came with Collector Ponies, but longer),
lavender saddle blanket, with yellow, white, aqua, and lavender ribbons (shown
right). She basically identical in style and pose and color to a My Little
Pony named Peachy,
released in 1982 with the Pretty Parlor. She came package in a box picturing
her with the My Little Pony logo, modified to read: My Pretty Pony.

"Yellow"
My Pretty Pony (earth pony) has a yellow colored body with a white blaze
on her nose. She has medium pink hair and has seven pink hearts on each side
of her rear. Her eyes are blue. She has 1981 Hasbro Industries, Pawtucket R.
I. pat pending stamped onto her body. She is possibly the same version as
above, just discolored.
For years, it has been assumed that there are two separate versions of Peachy,
a yellow and pink version. Some people think its a discoloration issue, which
is probable. The yellow versions that I've seen do come with the same accessories
as the other Peachys. I've checked all my old catalouges and information, and
cannot find any info concerning this.
